Santa Cruz County Jail Chaplaincy Services
In Spring 2024, we were called to expand the hope-sharing work of jail chaplaincy with the individuals incarcerated in Santa Cruz County. CIC staff and volunteer chaplains are serving 300 people in 3 facilities.
Santa Cruz County Jail programs include:
Approval of religious diets
Distribution of religious accommodations and materials
Spiritual consultation for individuals who are incarcerated, including grief counseling, check-ins, etc.,
Provision of mandated services and religious rites
Support for corrections staff to guide religious protocols and procedures
Support for individuals who are incarcerated and jail staff after critical incidents, including response to emergency situations or death notifications.
Training and recruitment of volunteer staff to provide religious services and managing volunteer base with program staff
Outreach to local faith communities to solicit support and educate the community about issues regarding incarceration and reentry
Provide spiritual support for those going to prison or reentering the community
