RAISING AWARENESS
We are committed to learning.
An important part of our mission is to educate and raise awareness around the issues of incarceration, its effects on those behind bars and the impact on our communities. In this time of social change, when many are thinking about incarceration and its effects, we believe we have an important story to share.
CIC has a long standing commitment to growing in our own self awareness. After all, being self aware is a key principal of chaplaincy! Currently CIC staff have been digging deep into cultural humility and effective cross cultural communication. The conversations are hard and absolutely necessary.
We are also working through professional training for delivering trauma informed services.
Our volunteers participate in a variety of training throughout the years that continues to evolve with the world around us. Topics covered include power and privilege, incarceration and mental health and meeting the spiritual needs of the diverse jail population.
Opportunities for YOU to learn
Trauma Informed Ministry Training and more
CIC hosts monthly special jail trainings for volunteer chaplains to dig deep into struggles faced by incarcerated individuals prior, during and after their incarceration. As an organization dedicated to providing Trauma Informed services, volunteers participate in a minimum of 2 hours of Trauma Informed training per year. In addition volunteers and supporters can join in other special training opportunities so we can all grow together.
Going In, Staying In: Jail Ministry Training
Going In, Staying In is a long standing training seminar hosted by CIC. This 2 hour session is required for new and returning volunteers. It features guest speakers covering topics such as the impact of incarceration on mental health, interactive sessions examining privilege and power and an introduction to volunteering inside of jails. The training is free and open to all and held 3-4 times per year.

CIC in the Community
Though we are small, nothing can separate us from the love of God
CIC staff often have the opportunity to share about jail chaplaincy at churches and other organizations in our community. Click below to listen to a recent sermon shared by CIC's Executive Director and Correctional Center for Women Facility Chaplain Rev. Liz Milner.
CIC at the Movies
When Angel Rodriguez, a recent graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary and CIC volunteer chaplain, learned that Q Ball was being screened at this year's Windrider Film Forum, he knew that CIC Ministries needed to be part of the event. He reached out to CIC staff and signed up for the exhibit. His initiative granted CIC staff and volunteers an opportunity to share about ministry in the Santa Clara County correctional institutions with the audience through one-on-one interactions before and after the film.
